Sweet Surprise

Posted by admin On April - 22 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Everybody has a sweet tooth, I guess.  Do you know of someone who doesn’t like chocolates or candies?  Probably some people outgrew them after a while, but sweets have, in one way or another ruled most of us, specially in our younger years. Sweets will always be synonymous to being in heaven.

When we talk about sweets, it brings back good, old, childhood memories. We also associate sweets with giving them to someone very special to us, like a boyfriend or a girlfriend. These sweets come in different shapes, sizes, and colors you can think of and all the flavors that make you want to have a taste of until your tongue becomes numb.

Early last year, my friend brought handmade Hope and Greenwood sweets from the UK. Their chocolate and lollies are probably the most scrumptious sweets there are. They come in various forms and designs. My niece and my nephews went crazy over the confectioneries and finished two bags in just a few minutes.  I even went back to her place to ask for a few more sweets because I myself was hooked on them, but  to my dismay found that there was none left. My friend is in the UK right now and will be coming home next week.  She said that she would bring home more sweets so that she and I could also have the pleasure of eating them. Makes me smile when I imagine myself actually chomping them. I think I’ll go nuts.

Drive Thru

The drive thru stores are very convenient.  There are a lot of drive thru stores around the Metro enabling you to eat inside your car or bring some food home or to the office without leaving your car and walking inside the store.  There is even a drive thru store for donuts.  People who have cars and are in a hurry can conveniently pass through the drive thru counter and continue to where they are going.

The drive thru stores have the same menu as the main stores do.  I guess their target are people who do not have much time or have busy schedules.  You are also able to order chicken with rice or other rice meals so people will be able to bring food at home or maybe allow someone in the back seat to eat.  I have become so used to passing through the drive thru stores that I have been able to eat on my way home.  Beats being hungry in traffic which is so heavy nowadays.

Corregidor

Just been to Corregidor last weekend.  Had fun with the day tour but was not able to view the Malinta Tunnel from the inside though.  There was supposed to be a 30-minute light show that showed you how the people lived in the tunnel during the war.  Imagine being in a dark tunnel with a lot of people that you could not really see for months.  You know someone’s there but you’re not sure who.  You might go crazy after that experience.

The view of the whole island was nice.  You could really relax and enjoy the food.  The tour would make you hungry especially if you take the trekking tour.  You would be able to see the old hospital and barracks which are all in ruins.  If you like ghost hunting, you might want to go there.  The tour guide would of course tell of the story of what had happened to the island during the war and the story behind the holes in the ground and the cannons and how the island defended the country during the war.

You could also cool off in the pool near the hotel or on the beach.  It is safe to swim during the day.  Our tour guide, Armando, told us the sharks are vegetarians during the day so there is no need to worry.  He made the tour fun by telling us jokes aside from the history of the island and some facts.  I guess the people there also make sure that you would have a fun stay at the island.

If you want to go on a little adventure by just going around an island or up and down some hills or even crawling into some of the holes that were made by the Japanese during the war, you might want to consider Corregidor.  After going around the island, you would also be able to eat some delicious food from their buffet at the Recreation Center, or you could choose the restaurant in the hotel.

Let’s get tropical!

I was a bit stammered when I went to see Semi-Pro. I’m not quite sure what I expect of the movie, but if you really think about it, it’s silly.

Will Ferrell plays as the coach/owner of the basketball team Flint Tropics. He is emotionally exaggerated he’s hilarious. The team happened to be the worst team in the league and they were in danger to be dissolved. And so Will Ferrell comes up with gimmicks including a wrestle with a bear after the game just to draw fans. The guys are dressed in cool 70’s outfits (bell bottoms, retro pants, funky vintage shirts, and high-heeled shoes for men- reminds me of my dad in his glorious youthful days-and realized it’s not so creepy at all, it’s even cool). Their basketball uniform is resplendent with orange and blue linings with a coconut logo on the shirt and the shorts are really short and sort of skimpy.

Semi-Pro is amusing and funny it made me laugh at its few scenes. I did enjoy watching it and will probably watch it a few more times to pass a hot, boring, summer afternoon and chill out.
